In January of 2016, a new kind of chameleon was found in Tanzania. The cool thing about this little beast is it’s mysterious nose..
According to Tim Davenport, one of the discoverers of the species, the creature’s strange nose has a purpose that is so far unknown. There’s speculation that it serves in the mating habits of the chameleon. The most relevant news that this critter brings to the science world is it’s strange distribution in Tanzania.
Throughout Tanzania, the biology is very diverse. This chameleon lives in four distinct forest regions in the area, separated by the Makambako Gap, a zoological barrier. In recent years the area has been ‘bursting’ with undiscovered species. Ultimately, this finding may help to fully understanding the ecology of the area.
